I saw this Ibanez and instantly fell in love with it
There was a small music shop near my school, and when I saw this Ibanez one day in the early 90s I instantly fell in love with it.
I dreamed about it for weeks, but really could not afford it with my after-school job salary. Somehow I managed to take out a line of credit for a couple of hundred Deutschmarks. Don’t ask me how that worked with barely an income, I think I was talking to the bank branch manager several times and really convinced him that that my life depended on it …

I was mixing at least 2 of my albums on this crazy ass vintage German broadcast desk. I used it mostly as a final stage summing mixer. I think it’s a TAB Telefunken T-30 from a 70s TV truck. It’s so rare you don’t even find anything on Google about it.

Kernkraft 400 week is over. Next time I’ll be talking about the song in 2029 for the 30 year anniversary 😉 this cute birthday present from @yebisu303 is a perfect way to end the centennial Kernkraft celebration. let’s make music and explore new horizons
On a recent attempt to clean the cellar I came across the silver record award for Kernkraft 400. It reads: “to recognize sales in the United Kingdom of more than 200,000 copies of the Single Kernkraft 400” The song made it to #2 in the UK charts which is amazing in many ways, especially because it’s an instrumental track. This UK release also contained a banging remix by Dave Clarke. DJ Hell proposed him to Data Records as a remixer. I liked the idea because Dave’s ‘Red 2 -Wisdom to the Wise’ was the first Techno track I fell in love with at 9am at an after hour. That lead to me making wanting to buy records and play them, which lead to making music, which lead to this release

Over the years I heard from many people that Kernkraft 400 was the song that introduced them to electronic music or that it motivated them to start making music. It’s amazing to know that something I did influenced others in some way. I wasn’t aware of this interview with young Tim Berg aka Avicii until recently and unfortunately we had never had a chance to meet. Things went fast in early 2000s. Kernkraft 400 was licensed to labels in different countries. A more straightforward remix of Kernkraft had gained a lot of traction. A video had to be made. The script sounded nice enough so I went along with it. I am still not sure what to think of the result :) MTV/Viva didn’t know how to deal with it because all regular ‘dance music’ videos at the time consisted of a girl driving through the desert in a Ford Mustang and somewhwere along the road the ‘DJ’ would appear trying to hitchhike towards the sunset. One thing I remember is the makeup artist on set saying to me: “hey I don’t know if you are becoming famous from this or not, but going forward promise me you’ll pluck your unibrow” – promise kept
